A Lost People

M.M.- EIP

I long for a place I've never been
It describes my soul of a hundred years old.
My dreams often go to a time I only know, in old movies and books, women of strong looks
High cheekbones and hard feet, determined to live and made history.
I live in today's world but my heart is seldom present
I hold onto my past and look upwards to the Heavens.

I can't say I don't get sad when I think of all we went through
Many died fighting and we still fight today in a world quickly fading away.
We have come far from slavery days but still it exists in so many ways
Sometimes I wonder has anything really changed or masks thrown over faces.
Faces of classism, faces of hate
Faces of racism, faces that segregate.
Faces of prejudice, take a minute and think on this.
Faces turned fake when people decided plastic hides pain.

Do you recognize you?
No matter how wide you smile you know you lie
Because you have denied your birthright to this life.
Changing your skin is not an indication of liberation
Don't go augmenting just to feel apart of something.
It makes you look lost and ashamed, examine the blood that runs through your veins.
The strongest roots lead back to a people who conquered chains.
